Monster, monoliths, giant claws. But the steel penetrates those bodies. They just bodies here. The astronaut has no body there. Smile of steel. Collapsible driver. But that signature is a virus. Let us leave it off, leave it…

A children’s book on agriculture in Le Cateau brings together drawings by students from three classes at three different schools in the region to partner with Musée Matisse Le Cateau-Cambrésis, located in rural northern France. At the invitation of Carrie Pilto, director of the museum, artist Harrell Fletcher joined by Nolan Calisch and Molly Sherman proposed instructions for children to illustrate a text on the agricultural history of the region. This book traces the first meeting between these artists and the inhabitants of Le Cateau and its environs, beginning a series of participatory projects initiated by Musée Matisse Le Cateau-Cambrésis.

A horizontal expansion followed by a vertical contraction of a Microsoft Excell cell. This book is made with Microsoft Excel. It can be opened and read from both sides with varying results and titles. In both cases cells evolve from thinnest possible lines to standard width squares and back to lines again, creating a zig-zag trace of movement. In the middle of the book the expansion changes to a contraction and the zig-zag causes a 90-degree change in orientation.

One day I found a tumblr called Kim Jong Il Looking At Things. I could not stop looking at Kim Jong Il looking at things. He looked so religiously detached from every thing he looked at. It was like he was not in his body while looking at bras, candy, sky, whatever. When he smiled or did not smile the expression felt the same: empty. Was the Dear Leader enlightened? He seemed honest looking at things, whatever it was, and other times he seemed delighted and bored. I don’t know why but it’s intriguing to see him looking at things ...

“In pandemic times there is room for reflection: reflection on what is being done and why, what has already been created, and how the artistic work can be recorded, shared and made available to a wider audience,” maintains Isabelle Schad, describing the multiple range of activities of revisiting and rearranging material from past works that has been keeping her busy during the heyday of the pandemic. But is it possible to challenge the solitary act of reflection on the own artistic work by acknowledging its strong collective foundation? A Room Full of Particles: A Living Archive for Isabelle Schad is a collection ...

Do you know that canvas you see in every permanent collection in every art museum around the world that has been slashed by an artist called Fontana? There are many of them, each a slightly different size, with a different length slash. When encountering them I peer through the slash to the dark shadow, ‘concetto spaziale,’ adjusting my eyes to the light that reaches the gallery wall. I wonder how many canvasses Fontana slashed, and how they would look displayed from the longest to the shortest? The book aligns and extends these voids from page 1 to page 150. A selection ...

A tale of a maiden or two + an animal streak is the sister action piece to Lawrence Weiner’s 1996 book, A Tale Of A Maiden Or Two, which features the phrase, “They say there was in the twentieth century a philosophy that believed that each girl was unique & alone in an indifferent & often hostile world.” This version presents what appear to be song titles on a background of close-up pixilated black and white lines next to images of art, advertising and mass media collages.

Glitches are hot. It is clear from what we can see on MTV, Flickr, in the club or the bookstore. While the “Glitch: designing imperfection” coffee table book introduces the glitch design aesthetic to the world of latte drinking designers, and Kanye West uses glitches to sing about his imperfect love life, the awkward, shy and physically ugly celebrate under the header “Glitched: Nerdcore for life”. Glitch has become hot. A brightly colored bubblegum wrapper that doesn’t ask for much involvement, or offers any stimulus. Inside I find gum that I keep chewing – hoping for some new explosion of ...
