The Palestinian Chalk Circle

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Originally published in 1971 in Mahmoud Darwish’s </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Diary of a Citizen without a Country,</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> then in English by the Beirut-based Fifth of June Society and Arab Women’s Information Committee, </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Palestinian Chalk Circle</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> recounts the daily indignities and absurdities of Palestinian life under Israeli occupation. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This zine unfolds into a poster that enlarges the story’s final chapter, in which the narrator links their desire to have been born on Leap Day to an imagined “vacant” day in the calendar when the Arabs will finally be victorious.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Released on February 29, 2024, at Creative Time’s CTHQ and subsequently distributed at the NY Art Book Fair in April 2024.</span></p>
