Der Versuch
<p>Set in a distant, unspecified year, Dürrenmatt’s short story proposes an archaeology of the future, where competing AI systems mitigate their fraught relationship to what’s left of humans across a tangled web of reconstructed facts. Written in 1989 as the Cold War collapsed, Dürrenmatt foresaw a post-human future in which science had become fully untethered from the social, and humans lacked the anchors of genealogy, nation or history. In the landscape of <em>Der Versuch</em>, after the singularity came the multiplicity: a computational replication of unpredictable subjectivity, just as in the human species that the machines had long since supplanted.</p> <p><em>Der Versuch</em> is co-published by End of Medium, electrfd.net and Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel, in collaboration with artist Esther Hunziker, on the occasion of her participation in the exhibition <em><a href="https://www.cdn.ch/en/visions-of-the-future" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Visions of the Future</a></em>.</p>
