An ecotone is a hybrid zone between two ecosystems, such as a forest and grassland, or a lake and a field, where specific species and natural phenomena flourish.

Ecotones of Making considers the ecotone as a way of producing hybridised ways of living, blending urban experiences with the practical knowledge of the rural.

This collection of artefacts and tools is sourced and produced in the village of Gerswalde, east Germany. Here, new spaces for rural commoning and small-scale cultural production have emerged, from a communal housing project to a permaculture farm and risograph printing workshop, and are creating a replicable model for quotidian degrowth living.
