Old Houses, New Homes

Ormsundveien Økogrend is a proposal for a housing project on and around Bekkelagstunet, a former military camp by Ormøya in Oslo. Our aim is to establish a sustainable and socially inclusive living environment. A preliminary report on the project by Eriksen Skajaa Arkitekter / Fragment (funded by the The Norwegian State Housing Bank) addresses matters ranging from low-tech upgrades of existing building stock and self- build schemes, to urban farming and communal living. We believe that an important step towards a climate conscious future is the realization of successful examples of how we can live in ways that are not based on the underlying idea of constant growth. At the core this we want to demonstrate that it is crucial to measure greenhouse emissions based on individual use, rather than per square meter of housing. We believe that projects such as Ormsundveien Økogrend can be catalysts for change in society as a whole.
