“In pandemic times there is room for reflection: reflection on what is being done and why, what has already been created, and how the artistic work can be recorded, shared and made available to a wider audience,” maintains Isabelle Schad, describing the multiple range of activities of revisiting and rearranging material from past works that has been keeping her busy during the heyday of the pandemic. But is it possible to challenge the solitary act of reflection on the own artistic work by acknowledging its strong collective foundation? A Room Full of Particles: A Living Archive for Isabelle Schad is a collection ...

What is really the main shortcoming of art today? Where is the essence of its unfulfilled promise of a better world? According to Slovenian art theoretician Bojana Kunst1, a possible answer can be formulated with regard to the paradox that the artist personifies the ideal of the post-Fordist worker who produces using cognitive and affective powers in flexible working conditions without making a distinction between work and free time. Time is the neuralgic point of general precarisation symbolised by the image of the artist, which is the focus of the exhibition A Taste for Work by the Fokus Grupa art collective. ...

Contributions from a distinguished group of international scholars debate fashion as a cultural phenomenon at the inter- section of artistic, creative, economic, and everyday practices. Aesthetic economies, the production of space, and alternative aesthetic politics are explored from interdisciplinary angles: art history, cultural science, sociology, design, and fashion studies. American Cypher is a suite of projects that respond to American stories about race and DNA. The first module of this project was a sound installation commissioned by Bucknell University, inspired by Thomas Jefferson (the 3rd US president) and Sally Hemings (his slave and, as DNA tests confirm, mother to his children). The piece that we’ve made for the Download series is a performance score. The image in the video was recorded in the basement of Jefferson’s plantation, Monticello, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The street is as usual – a stage for a clash between extreme forces capable of bringing about general passivity and frustration in a whole society. Well-situated middle class families and intellectuals strolling around, self-assured they really know how this world goes round – oh you can’t tell them anything new, they know what is going on in literature, in music, in theatre, in arts – oh they know everything, just everything. Yet what they do not know is that their understanding of literature, music, theatre and the arts has nothing to do with what is going on outside, outside ...

At the OFF-Biennial, Fokus Grupa (Iva Kovač and Elvis Krstulović) presented different projects which, combined, made up an entirely new coherent whole. The basic premise of the gallery presentation has been to interpret public monuments in Croatia and question the power of national myths and mythical dimensions of established historical facts. Rather than representing a mere selection of the exist- ing works organised into a readable story, the exhibited projects have been brought together to form a dramaturgical arc that could be read as an exhibition with the classical elements of a Greek tragedy (the ancient Greek tragedy bore a ...
